Looks like Tarantino and Rodriguez are just giving up any pretense to being artists and are just giving us full on sex and violence.
This movie will have:
Tom Savini of Dawn of the Dead (1978 and 2004), From Dusk Till Dawn, and Creepshow fame, among others. He is nicknamed the Godfather of Gore and is an actor, stunt man, and special effects expert.
Michael Biehn of The Terminator and Aliens.
Danny Trejo of From Dusk Till Dawn and The Devil's Rejects.
Rose McGowan of Doom Generation and Scream.
Kurt Russell of Big Trouble in Little China (my favorite of all his movies) and Escape from New York.
Among many many others.
(The movies I chose for the more mainstream actors above I chose to indicate that these people do have experience in Grindhouse/cult/horror films.)
They also have three additional directors:
Eli Roth, director of Cabin Fever and Hostel (who actually wants to be known as "the horror movie guy").
Rob Zombie, director of House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects.
And, last but certainly not least (this movie happens to be easily the best zombie movie to come along in over a decade), Edgar Wright, director of the brilliant Shaun of the Dead.
Seriously, I can't wait to see what they do with this. My only fear is that they'll somehow manage to fuck up such a simple premise, especially with the whole "too many cooks" thing.
I just have to remind myself that genre send-ups are Tarantino's specialty. He's managed to do it wonderfully with Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown (fuck the critics, I liked it), and Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2.
Besides, it looks like they all must have had a blast making Grindhouse. Hell, I would have been the Starbucks bitch if it meant getting to be on the set and watching all the action.
I know not everyone is interested in this (there are several people on my friends list who think this sort of thing is a waste of time), but I thought I'd post the links to the trailers for the people on my friends list that would enjoy it.
Now, time for my sleep-deprived ass to go to beddy-bye.
